Set like a jewel across from the east side of the IWU Quad at 1301 N. Park St. in Bloomington, Evelyn Chapel was built in 1984. It was designed after the Old North Church in Boston, from where Paul Revere made his famous ride. One if by land, Two if by sea: “The British are coming! The British are coming”!
Evelyn Chapel has won many prestigious awards for it’s design and construction, and was featured on the cover of Architectural Digest magazine. We photographed what we believe to have been the first wedding held there, plus many, many more weddings since then.
This photograph is from an 11:00 a.m. ceremony on a cold, very overcast March day. The heavy overcast day gives the beautiful radiance to the candelabras for its romantic candlelight style. This style is much more pronounced for evening weddings depending upon the time of year.
On sunny days, there is a wealth of warm sunlight streaming in through the many windows running down both sides of the chapel as well as the surrounding balcony. Evelyn is strikingly beautiful for your wedding ceremony as you can see, and we are most familiar with photographing there.
In addition, there are several nice rooms downstairs that are very convenient for the bride and her bridesmaids for getting ready. Then for pictures, there is a spacious balcony upstairs where arriving guests will not see the bride ahead of time. Plus, it has this huge, stunning circular bay window that makes a setting for some fantastic images. All this, and a rest room is practically within arms length.
Evelyn Chapel is one of our favorite places to photograph. It can seat up to 215 wedding guests. For more information online: Evelyn Chapel of IWU and you can call their office at (309) 556-3035.
