Bloomington Photographers Wedding in Historic Funks Grove Church

Funks Grove has been one of the most popular locations for weddings ever since we have been photographing, both in the historic Funks Grove Church and the outdoor Chapel of the Templed Trees.

This wedding ceremony was held inside the beautiful church which was built in 1864-1865 by Isaac and Robert Stubblefield with the help of their sons. The outdoor Chapel of the Templed Trees was most popular for brides and grooms until the major church remodeling from 2001 to 2003 added air conditioning, yet retaining all the original characteristics. Until you have photographed a wedding on a hot summer day in a church with no air conditioning, you have not lived!

The original ceiling beams, pulpit and altar railing, and the wall behind the pulpit all remain. In addition, the pew divider, which was used to separate the men from the women (agh, the olden days) are all made from walnut trees grown in Funks Grove. Oregon cedar lines the walls, two wood burning stoves, wall mounted lanterns, and original rolled window pane glass remain.

This picture, taken from the back of the church shows how a wedding ceremony looks as viewed from the guests seated in the church. It can seat up to 200 guests.
